I work in a daycare with kids every day. They are so cute! It is hard to go throughout the day without smiling. One day, one of the girls was being super cute. I told her she was a cutie patootie, so she said, “I ain’t no patootie.”
We have reason to smile
I hope that puts a smile on your face! Sometimes because of the stress and business of this life, we have a hard time finding a reason to smile. As a Christian, my faith in God gives me a lot of motivation to smile. I’m going to give you three simple but important reasons that help put a smile on my face. I hope by sharing this with you; it gives you a reason to smile.
We have freedom
We were slaves of sin and death. However, God sent His Son to die on the cross to defeat sin and death once and for all. Romans 6:23 states,
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”(NKJV).
We now have hope of eternal life and have been set free from the wages of sin.
We have hope
Many things in this life will disappoint us. Our hope does not disappoint. Romans 5:5 encourages,
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (NKJV).
God’s abundant love for us assures us that our hope is real! Not just His love but also God’s character. Hebrews 6:18 tells us that it is impossible for God to lie. Verse 19a goes on to state,
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast” (NKJV).
Because of our hope, we have joy and a reason to rejoice.
We have joy
Philippians 4:4 says,
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”(NKJV).
With everything that Christ has promised and done for me, how can I not rejoice in Him? Even in the midst of trials, I can find joy (James 1:2). I know that God has great plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11). In my time of weakness, He gives me the strength to get through (2 Corinthians 12:9).
“Christ gives me a joy that is so great! Just like a smile, I cannot keep it to myself.” (click to tweet)
I want to share it with others.
Share a smile
Just like a smile can brighten up the darkest days and can be very contagious, the blessings and promises we have in Christ can brighten the lives of the people around us. It should be so contagious the people around us want it too. So, I hope today, this encourages you to smile, and in return share that smile with someone else.
